Gems from Around the 'Sphere

While stumbling around the blogosphere today, I happened upon the following interesting, original, and well written posts:
Torat Ezra defends the lifestyle of Jewish singles who live on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. When it comes to shidduchim, "the UWS singles have the healthiest attitudes I know in the Orthodox community" he says. I think he's right.
The always eloquent Treppenwitz reminds us to be grateful for the people and the land that we love.
SepardiLady places responsibility for teaching the value of money to our spoiled children squarely where it belongs: at their parents' feet.
Two years ago, The Wolf recalled being in downtown Manhattan as the horrors of September 11 unfolded around him.
And Me-Ander hosts this week's massive Haveil Havalim blog roundup.
(No need to thank me when you're glued to your computer bleary-eyed at 2 in the morning, reading all these posts. I aim to serve.)

the one time i got involved (regretfully) in a real shiduch was when a mother called me up as a reference for my friend (i don't know what he was thinking, esp. without warning me in advance). the lady was a lunatic and among her hangups was that he lived on the UWS. he happened to be the nicest guy we knew (my wife wanted her sister to find someone like him) but she just didn't care. she kept on asking me all these wierd questions and finally i got the gist of what she really was interested in. so i came out with it and said, "don't worry. he doesn't sleep around even though he lives on the UWS."

they never went out.
