Just one day before he will (probably) be elected President of the United States, Barack Obama has learned that his grandmother has died of cancer .
Madelyn Dunham, 86, was Obama's maternal grandmother, and she helped raise him for several years while his somewhat flaky mother lived in Indonesia. Obama has said that he was close to his grandmother, and credits her with "pouring everything she had into me".
How horrible. To lose someone you love just as you're standing on the threshold of the greatest moment of your life. No matter what your politics are, you gotta feel sorry for the guy.

Definitely. And imagine actually getting to vote for your own child or grandchild! Bill Clinton's mother not only got to vote for her own son, she was also the chief delegate from Arkansas who cast her state's votes for him at the Democratic Convention.
