1. I can leave the house for short periods of time without needing a babysitter.
2. My kids laugh at my jokes because they actually get them, not just because "Mommy's being silly".
3. They really help me with the housework.
4. They help each other with homework.
5. I no longer have to make playdates for them; they're old enough to coordinate their own social lives.
6. I can finally add some spices to my cooking because their taste buds are maturing.
7. They whisper urgently to each other and stop suddenly when I walk into the room.
8. Flash and I have intelligent conversations about politics, history and religion, in which I learn just as much from him as he learns from me.
9. Watching my daughter grow into a graceful, self possessed young woman is an awe-inspring thing.
10. It is becoming easier to see the intelligent, thoughtful, kind, and decent adults that they will be one day.

Must be a great feeling.
I'm 8 years apart from my younger brother and sister, and I remember from he year they were born I was always wishing they were one year older already cause they can do more stuff and everything.
Now I kinda miss having little kids in the house. But then again I keep having babysitting jobs so that keeps me busy with little kids.
But those were great points you mentioned.

enjoy, from my now empty nest...
I'm at exactly the same stage. And while I sometimes hanker to hold a little baby in my arms, I just love that I don't have to strap them in and out of the carseat, shlep the carriage in and out of the car, bend over the tub to bathe them.
Or pay for a babysitter (you'll get there soon).
I also dont have to sit at the baby pool, I can actually sit back a bit as they are independent in the water (lifeguards of course always present). They can make scrambled eggs and other assorted dishes. "Mommy, can I have a drink?" Sure, I say, and continue what I've been doing.
In some ways it's alot easier, in others....
But it's all good, isn't it? (Well, for the most part.)
And what about not having to go to movies like Rugrats anymore???
I really am enjoying this time. The major down side is that I can feel the "empty nest" looming on the horizon, still distant but visible. I know that I probably only have about 5 more years of having Flash live at home (he's the oldest).
And you know, I kind of like the Rugrats...
