L.I. Girl's High School Closed Due To Lack Of Funding

Update: The parent body of Shalhevet has agreed to cover the school's $150,000 deficit, thereby enabling the school to open in September for a second year.

The Jewish Star is reporting that Shalhevet High School of Cedarhurst, Long Island is closing after just one year because its affiliated schools do not have enough money coming in to continue to fund it.
That's a big disappointment. Shalhevet showed real promise of developing into an excellent school, and I was seriously considering sending Wonderwoman there in two years.
I truly hope that this is not a sign of things to come.

I have just had a look at their website; it looks like a good school. A sad piece of news.

i'm not familiar with the school. how is it different than other MO girls schools (e.g., halb, central) that would have justified continued funding?

LOZ-
It's not that it was so different, it's that I think it's sad that a promising new school gets shut down so quickly. It's also difficult on the students and the staff, who now have to find new schools to attend in September.

Thanks for the update - I hadn't heard that they will actually open this year. Good news. When a school closes on short notice it's incredib;ly hard on the students, parents, and staff. At least people now know to be wary and have a heads up for next year.

Rabbi Fleischmann-
Thank you so much for stopping by! You may be my only "Rabbi reader", and it really ups my yichus quotient! ( :
BTW, I enjoy your blog very much, even if I don't comment often.
