They're Leaving On A Jet Plane...

American journalists Laura Ling and Euna Lee, who were arrested in North Korea and sentenced to 12 years of hard labor, have left North Korea with Bill Clinton, who met with Kim Jong Il and secured their release earlier today.
There is a lot of speculation as to why Kim was willing to grant Clinton's request to pardon the women when he had rebuffed all previous attempts by the U.S. to win their release.
I have no idea what transpired behind the scenes or how Clinton managed to pull this off. All I know is that the Israeli government should put him on a plane to Gaza immediately to see if he can bring Gilad Shalit back home...

I like your idea of Bill Clinton securing Gilad Shalit's release - sounds like a nice fantasy.

I like your idea too. Beacause of Clinton's notoriety, the world would be forced to focus on this issue.

I was really surprised when I saw the headline too. As a Canadian, I liked Clinton a lot, but I'm glad Mrs. Clinton didn't win the democrate nomination, I think it all worked out better this way.

Say what you will about Bill, but he is one of the most of the charming men in the world. He probably had a couple of beers with Kim Jong, where they discussed their wives ("the old ball and chain"), smoked a cigar, maybe shared a hamburger, and before you know Jong handed him the keys to the cell.

It'd be something to see Clinton in Gaza.

In his biography, Bill Clinton expressed frustration, astonishment and fury at Arafat for rebuffing Israel's more-than-generous West Bank offer in 2000.

When I saw the freed women on TV, saying how they suddenly saw Clinton and knew they were on the way home, the first think I thought of was that he should go to Gaza and free Gilad the same way. That would be so fantastic!
