School Stress

The kids are finally back in school.
When I asked Flash if he was ready for the first day of school, he said "yeah, I got a pen".
Wonderwoman is already experiencing significant anxiety that "I'm going to fail everything and then you'll be mad at me."
Supermangirl reported that her new halachah rebbe is nice but not too smart because "he seems to think that there are two Torahs" (a subsequent investigation revealed that he was trying to teach them about the Written Torah and the Oral Torah).
Meanwhile, those lovely first-day-of-school notes tell me that I owe a combined total of $570 to the 3 schools for things like lice checks, locker fees, van transportation, a Purim chagigah that's still six months away, etc. (please don't ask me to break it down for you because it will make me cry.)
Be sure to watch this space for frequent updates as my blood pressure continues to climb.

I read you loud and clear. :)

some of those costs are more reasonable than others. but what in the heck are locker fees?

Oh my God, LOZ, don't get me started. The lockers in my daughters school have been there forever. Nevertheless, the school "rents" them out to the students to use for the year. It's a totally bogus charge, if you ask me.

Ugh.

bogus is not the word i would use. sorry raizy, but i'm giving you're blog a break. this is the second post of yours in a matter of days that has left me wanting to leave vulgarity in the comment.

besides, with the start of the school year i'm experiencing enough stress from my own child's school. i don't need to compound it by reading about your stress.

good luck!

eh, forget the good luck. you've been doing this longer than me. if luck hasn't kicked in thus far, you're screwed.

In Toronto, we also have those multiple expenses added to the already over-the-moon tuition fees of my kids' day school/Yeshiva high school. And then my kids want to partake in the varied lunch programs, and want to get Scholastic books, and want to take after-school programs, and need to get these darn expensive specialized calculators for first year high school, and want specific supplies...
When/where does it all end...?
Wishing your kids much mazel in school (and you much mazel in overseeing them!).
We're dealing with grade 4 (boy), grade 7 (girl), grade 9 (boy) and first-time carpooling... OY!!!

In my grandchildren's Day School they charge a $500 fee for a child enrolled in Pre-K, even if he is currently enrolled in a "satellite location". This fee is credited to your tuition if you enroll them in Kindergarten at the main school the following year. I guess it encourages parents to enroll their children in their Kindergarten, but to me it is a chutzpah to ask a family to pay part of the following year's tuition in the current year. My grandchild may not be able to attend the main school location without bus transportation and that has been cut by our local township to save money.
All another reason to look into the finances of the school and see where the money is being spent and if this year's fee is being put into a reserve account for next year's tuition, when people will have less money to pay for (surely) higher tuition & fees

Perhaps they can start adding a fee for each time our children use the bathroom!
